Online Foosball Tournaments and Ranked Play
There are two ways to test yourself in Foosball Online: run a room tournament with your friends, or collect rating points in ranked matches and climb the tiers. This guide covers both, the rating system and the monthly leaderboard.
How to run a room tournament
Once three or more people are in a 1v1 room, the host can start a knockout tournament for 3 to 8 players (Start tournament). Everyone is ticked to begin with and you untick anyone who should not play. The server makes the draw and builds a bracket of four or eight: missing places become byes for the top seeds, and two byes never meet.
How a tournament runs
The room runs it by itself: it seats the next two players while everyone else watches, counts down eight seconds before the first match and ten before each later one, and starts it. The winner goes through and the final crowns a champion. Everyone in the room sees the bracket round by round, and the result screen says who plays next.
To make sure every match has a winner, overtime and golden goal stay on throughout; the tournament owns the seats and the rules, and bots leave the room. A player who leaves (after the 20 seconds' grace for a dropped connection) loses by walkover, even in the middle of a match.
Ranked 1v1 and 2v2
Ranked matches need a free account, because a rating has to belong to a player the server remembers. When you join the queue the system looks for an opponent near your rating: within ±60 points at first, widening by 20 points every second up to ±600. When it finds one you are both taken into a private room, and the same rules apply to everyone: first to 5, five minutes, golden goal on, no spectators.
In ranked 2v2, if you queue alone the system pairs you with a partner of your level, or you can join as a party of two with a friend. Every player is rated on a 2v2 rating of their own, against the other team's average.
Ratings and tiers
Ratings use the Glicko-2 system: it keeps both your rating and how sure it is of that rating, so early matches move you a lot and later ones less. Until the rating is reliable you show as Unranked; after that you settle into Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond or Master.
After every ranked match the result screen shows what changed in your rating, and your account window shows your tier, your peak rating and your ranked record.
Monthly seasons and the leaderboard
Seasons follow the calendar month. The leaderboard lists everyone with at least five ranked matches that month, by the rating their last match left them with, and you see your own place even when it is far down the table. The final boards of past seasons are kept, and a top-ten finish shows on your account with the season and your place. Ratings carry over from season to season.
Questions about tournaments and ranked play
Do I need an account to join a tournament?

Can a tournament match end in a draw?
No. Overtime and golden goal stay on throughout, so every match has a winner.
How does ranked matchmaking find an opponent?
The system looks for someone near your rating: within ±60 points at first, widening by 20 points every second while you wait, up to ±600.
What tiers are there in foosball?
Unranked, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Master. You show as Unranked in your first matches and your tier is set once your rating is reliable.
